L’Organo più antico del Mondo:
ORGANO ANONIMO 1267, Chiesa Cattedrale di Notre Dame de Valere, Sion, Svizzera (CH)
In una delle chiese cattedrali abbaziali di costruzione medioevale, e forse una delle prime avente la pianta a croce immissa, dedicata alla Vergine Maria del Rosario e sita sul punto più alto della cittadina svizzera di Sion, nel cantone francese, trovasi lo strumento a canne più antico del mondo, datato 1267, e sopravvissuto grazie a numerosi restauri ed altrettante (e non poche) modifiche che però ancora oggi non hanno alterato comunque il suo suono unico ed inimitabile, essendo forse il primo a possedere il temperamento mesotonico.
Lo stesso organo è situato in controfacciata, su di una cantoria in legno “a nido di rondine” da cui si accede da una porticina sita a destra. Lo stesso possiede una cassa elegantemente ornata di intagli ed è racchiusa da 2 ante, finemente dipinte, nel cui interno, vi è rappresentata a sinistra la Vergine Maria con in grembo Gesù Bambino e San Giovanni Battista e a destra l’apparizione di Gesù Risorto a Santa Maria Maddalena. Ad ante chiuse invece si denota la rappresentazione dell’Annunciazione dell’arcangelo Gabriele alla Madre di Dio. La facciata divisa in 3 campate, con punto a sbalzo per quella centrale, e sono tutte appartenenti al Principale 8′.
Al di sotto dell’artistica facciata trova posto la consolle, che originariamente possedeva solo la tastiera che si vede ancora oggi di 45 note con prima ottava corta, detta anche “Gregoriana”, i cui tasti sono costruiti in bosso e castagno, e ai fianchi trovano posto le manette ad incastro verticale che controllano i registri, così disposti:
Principale 8′, Ottava 4′, Quintadecima 2′, DecimaNona, Vigesima seconda, Voce Umana 8′, Flauto in selva 4′.
Nel 1460 fu aggiunta la fila di canne di Principale basso (che nelle foto precedenti si vedono sul fondo di color vaniglia) associata alla prima ottava della tastiera, a cui fece capo anche la disposizione della pedaliera scavezza di 9 note costantemente collegata ad essa e costituita in legno di abete. La trasmissione è di tipologia meccanica diretta e tutta la tiranteria è in metallo. Inoltre tutte le canne originali sono in lega stagno/piombo, mentre la prima ottava del Principale descritta prima aggiunte nel 400 è in legno di cipresso. Originale anche il somiere a vento della tastiera, su cui poggiano le canne sostenute da un crivello misto in legno e cartone pesante. I mantici originali, una volta a cuneo, vennero sostituiti successivamente al 400, quando fu aggiunto il somiere per la basseria, con un unico mantice alimentato da pompe mosse da un volano per questioni di spazio, poi alimentato oggi da un elettroventola a pressione costante. La pressione in colonna d’acqua è abbastanza forte per l’epoca, tanto da constatare per la prima volta una soglia superiore ai 55 millimetri. L’ultimo restauro dell’organo risale al 1982, e tutt’oggi è al centro di numerosi concerti e regolarmente utilizzato per le celebrazioni e funzioni liturgiche.

In one of the abbey church cathedrals of medieval construction, and perhaps one of the first having the cross-shaped plant, dedicated to the Virgin Mary of the Rosary and located on the highest point of the Swiss town of Sion, in the French canton, find the most ancient of the world, dated 1267, and survived thanks to numerous restorations and as many (and not few) changes that however still today have not altered its unique and inimitable sound, being perhaps the first to possess the mesotonic temperament. The same organ is located in the counter-façade, on a wooden “swallow’s nest” chancel which can be accessed from a small door on the right. The same has a case elegantly decorated with carvings and is enclosed by 2 doors, finely painted, inside which there is represented on the left the Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus and St. John the Baptist in her lap and on the right the apparition of the Risen Jesus to Santa Mary Magdalene. With closed doors, on the other hand, there is the representation of the Annunciation of the archangel Gabriel to the Mother of God. The facade is divided into 3 spans, with a cantilevered point for the central one, and all belong to the Principal 8 ‘. Below the artistic façade is the console, which originally had only the keyboard that is still seen today of 45 notes with first octave short, also called “Gregoriana”, whose keys are made of boxwood and chestnut, and the sides there are placed the vertical interlocking handles that control the registers, arranged as follows:
Principal 8 ‘, Octav 4’, Quintadecima 2 ‘, DecimaNona, Vigesima seconda, Voce Umana 8’, Flute wilderness 4 ‘.
In 1460 was added the row of pipes of Main bass (which in the previous photos can be seen on the bottom of vanilla) associated with the first octave of the keyboard, which also led the arrangement of the pedalette scavezza of 9 notes constantly connected to it and constituted in fir wood. The transmission is of direct mechanical type and the whole linkage is in metal. In addition, all the original barrels are in tin / lead alloy, while the first octave of the principal described first added in the 400 is in cypress wood. The wind chime of the keyboard is also original, on which the reeds supported by a mixed sieve made of wood and heavy cardboard rest. The original bellows, once wedge-shaped, were replaced after 400, when the serger for the bassery was added, with a single bellows powered by pumps moved by a flywheel due to space, then fed today by a constant pressure electric fan. The pressure in the column of water is strong enough for the time, so much so that for the first time a threshold of more than 55 millimeters has been observed. The last restoration of the organ dates back to 1982, and is still at the center of numerous concerts and regularly used for celebrations and liturgical functions.
